The Animatrix Old but still enjoyable, this DVD creates a link between the first Matrix and Matrix reloaded. The story "the last flight of Osiris" is really a key element to the rest of the story, whish is kinda dumb because people how didn't see it might not fully understand the rest of the serie. Also if you are not a fan of the "anime state of mind" don't watch it. Your brain might hurt. This is truly a piece of art, the most entence emotive responce won't come from the humans but the robots. In the "Second Renaissance" part one and two we can see the horrors of manking toward "inferior" characters. This is just a reflection on mans own reaction to what humans did to each other in the past. Images of genosides, of the tianmen square incident, of revolutions and other horrors are rebuilt with robots as victims, to mask the full extent of humans beastiality. These story alone gets a 10 on 10 but then there was "Matriculated" whish was [according to me] pointless like a miss placed "twilight zone" episode. It's a buy for fans of the genre and fans of the matrix, the rest should rent it just because of the art. I give it a 8.5 out of 10. great movie just that some people might not fully enjoy it.

Daredevil Director's Cut rating: 4/5
Difference between the theatrical and director version: Obviously the differences are because the studio wanted to make it a "hip" movie and a fast paced movie that times in under two hours. they cut out so much important stuff that it really made it a very different version. About 30 minutes were cut. either because of pace or also because they taught some scenes were useless. I just hate how some of those, if not all the studio suits make decisions. Most of the time they have no clue what they are doing. This movie was re-cut three times to end up being the final release.
The additional scenes were such a relief and proof that there was so much more to the characters. Many things now feel more in place and make sense. This adds so much to the character development too. They show Matt's investigative skills and also show that he's after all human and that he makes mistakes as well! The fight scenes are so much better, specially the Kingpin vs. Daredevil battle. It also feels more classy in some ways because of the added scenes, such ass the Jackson trial. The action scenes are better as well!
Be shure to also watch the commentaries of Director Mark Steven Johnson on his take between the differences of the final film and his version! In my opinion, this is a must have this does justice to the comic book!

Audition
In all my years of "exotic movie" watching, I believe I never were as stunned as i was at the end of the Audition by Takashi Miike, 1999 Odishon. It was quite movie with twist and turn that will leave you breathless if you make it to the end.
It starts off as a typical romantic Japanese movie, a man loses his beloved wife to a strange and incurable disease, he then sets up to live new his life with his only son. Shigeharu Aoyama, the man in question played by Ryo Ishibashi, is a noble TV producer who lives with his son Shigehiko Aoyama, played by Tetsu Sawaki. They both live happily together, but it comes a time where a son must live his own life. Shigeharu is then going to be alone filled with pity, fellow producer and playboy, Yasuhisa Yoshikawa comes up with a plan. Yasuhisa, played by Jun Kunimura, sets up a fake audition to let Shigeharu meet girls.
But this Japanese version of the dating game does not have a sanity filter, hilarity ensues. Like a chocolate coated corps, the sweet little part hides something so disgusting it makes you regret licking the first layer...no matter how good it tasted.
This DVD certainly not a rent, nor a buy, only if you are a hardcore Asian horror movie lover [such as yours truly]. The uncut version I have reviewed is some what more odd then the regular version, some extra gore and confusion slip into the already very bloody movie. But is there such thing as too much of the "Dear Lord!" factor...I think so.
The interesting parts of this DVD are the ads for the other horror movies out there, which is pretty nice if you ever feel like watching some Asian horror after this one. Also the whole graphic design is very nice and give you a taste of the pain within.
This movie's shear oddity and disgust earns it a steady 7 out of 10.

On a more personal note:
I did the mistake of viewing this movie for first time with my girl friend only to realize that Miike is a sick, sick man. Most troubling; she enjoyed it, while I still refuse to watch it again.
